Within the nightclub scene there are magical, utopian pockets of space that exist where marginalized people can meet and be free. What special communities and spaces of opportunity can arise on the dance floor? And how can we together maintain it as a lasting, liberating space?
On Thursday 16 June at 17-18h you can meet the currently exhibiting artist Liesel Burisch and Dr. Justin Hunt, researcher in queerness and queer activism, for a conversation about clubs and queer culture’s spaces of opportunity.
The artist talk is based on Burisch’s current solo exhibition Bring Time, which over the summer will transform O—Overgaden’s ground floor into a total installation with mesmerizing beats, seductive videos from the queer party scene, and manifestos that deal with an inclusive club culture. By exploring the transition between the world outside and inside the club as a threshold between normalized society and marginalized subcultures, Burisch questions the transience, inclusion, and archiving of club cultures. What can we learn at the border between clubs and the rest of society? And how do we incorporate the fragile, temporary space of opportunity that the party community is able to give us into the rest of our lives?
At the artist talk you can meet:
