Asta Lynge: Hard Rock
7 Jun – 3 Aug 2024
opening: 7 Jun 2024, 15:00

The cold surfaces of a digitized surveillance society are probed in Asta Lynge’s succinct practice: from the voice of Siri to the wide-eyed technologies gripping into all pockets of contemporary life. In artworks developed for her upcoming solo exhibition at O—Overgaden, “potent,” “noisy,” and “hard” cultural emblems are candidly dismantled to negotiate notions of effectivity and the commodification of desire and subjectivity. Among other sculptural works in the show, Lynge picks apart the double-neck guitar—the one-up tool, multiplying masculinity, associated with the over-franchised hard rock music genre and big budget showmanship—stripping bare the instrument’s body, looking beneath its boasting interface.

Asta Lynge (DK, 1988) is a Copenhagen-based artist, with a BFA from Central Saint Martins (2012) and a graduate of CSM’s Associate Studio Programme (2013–16). Lynge has previously exhibited at institutions including Giorno Poetry Systems, New York (2023); Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2023); Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Toreby (2023); 3236RLS/Le Bourgeois, London (2020); and dépendance, Brussels (2021). In 2022, she received Anne Marie-Carl Nielsen’s Talent Award.
